Research papers and protocol organization in private labs and companies often lack detailed instructions for repeating experiments. protocols.io is an open access platform for scientists to create step-by-step, interactive and dynamic protocols that can be run on mobile or web. Researchers can share protocols with lab mates, collaborators, the scientific community or make them public, with ease and efficiency. Real time communication and interaction keep protocols up to date with versioning, forking, Q&A, and troubleshooting. Public protocols receive a DOI and allow open communication with authors and researchers to encourage efficient experimentation and reproducibility.
The first part of this workshop will give an introduction to protocols.io. You will learn more about protocols.io‘s mission, how to discover public protocols, create your own protocols, share methods with others, and how to publish protocols. The second part of this workshop will cover “The Art of Writing Protocols”. You will receive practical tips on how you can make your methods more reproducible and you will be equipped with a list of best practices for writing protocols at the end of the workshop.
Practical information
The workshop takes place after the WGGC2020 News&Views meeting in Bonn. Lenny Teytelman (CEO) and Anita Bröllochs (Head of Outreach) from protocols.io will conduct this webinar from Berkeley, CA, USA. It will be possible to attend from an organized conference room at the DZNE which will allow to take part in the group exercise proposed during the webinars, but also anyone can join from anywhere through the ZOOM platform.
